Lips That Lied

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Verse 1

I saw the way you looked at me

Like I was still your favorite dream

But dreams don’t bleed, and hearts don’t mend

When love is just pretend

You whispered promises in the dark

Lit a fire, then left a mark

Now every word you said feels cold

Like silver turned to mold

Chorus

Don’t kiss me when your lips have lied to me

Don’t touch me like you still believe

I’m not the fool I used to be

So don’t kiss me—don’t kiss me

When your lips have lied to me

Verse 2

You wore your guilt like Sunday clothes

Pressed and clean, but everyone knows

Truth can’t hide behind perfume

It lingers in the room

I gave you grace, I gave you time

You gave me riddles dressed as rhyme

But I won’t dance to your deceit

I’ve found my own heartbeat

Chorus

Don’t kiss me when your lips have lied to me

Don’t touch me like you still believe

I’m not the fool I used to be

So don’t kiss me—don’t kiss me

When your lips have lied to me

Bridge

I’d rather walk alone than sleep beside

A love that’s built on alibis

You had your chance, you made your choice

Now I raise my voice

Final Chorus

Don’t kiss me when your lips have lied to me

Don’t touch me like you still believe

I’m not the fool I used to be

So don’t kiss me—don’t kiss me

When your lips have lied to me

Outro

No more lies behind your smile

I’m done with love that’s out of style

Don’t kiss me—don’t kiss me

When your lips have lied to me
