I Miss You From My Presence

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Based on an old Irish saying.... instead of I miss you, they say "I miss you from my presence" which is really so beautiful.

Verse 1

There’s an empty chair by the peat fire’s glow,

A cup gone cold where the night winds blow,

The fiddle on the mantle sleeps unsung,

Your laugh in the rafters, a song on my tongue.

Chorus

I miss you from my presence, like the tide that leaves the bay,

Your shadow’s on the hearthstone though your footsteps fade away,

I carry you in the quiet where the wild Atlantic roars,

I miss you from my presence—come back and fill these shores.

Verse 2

Bog cotton bends where the moonlight pours,

The mailboat stitches silver to the shores,

I write your name in the window’s rain,

And whisper it softly, a healing refrain.

Chorus

I miss you from my presence, like the tide that leaves the bay,

Your shadow’s on the hearthstone though your footsteps fade away,

I carry you in the quiet where the wild Atlantic roars,

I miss you from my presence—come back and fill these shores.

Verse 3

In Galway market the lanes run bright,

But I walk like a ghost through Saturday light,

Each swinging pub door—could it be you?

It opens, it closes—the same old view.

Bridge

If the road must keep you, may it lift your feet,

May a soft west wind make your journey sweet,

When the ceilí of stars gathers over the cove,

Follow the North Star home to the arms of love.

Chorus

I miss you from my presence, like the tide that leaves the bay,

Your shadow’s on the hearthstone though your footsteps fade away,

I carry you in the quiet where the wild Atlantic roars,

I miss you from my presence—come back and fill these shores.

Outro

Mo chroí, mo ghrá, a rún, mo stór—

I miss you from my presence; I’ll wait at the door.
