Libby the Witty Kitty

A charming poem for children and cat fans.

There once was an itty bitty kitty.

Her name was Libby.

Her fur was the color of a sweet biscotti

with snowfall white stripes.

****

Libby always got into mischief

as she was a very curious little kitty

and a bit of a brat.

****

Libby the kitty lived in a London flat

With her owners

Christie, Billy, and their young daughter Birdie.

****

OH, how Libby the kitty loved Birdie.

They played together daily,

chasing butterflies

and swatting at pink feather wands.

****

Other times, they just sat

cuddled and huddled

on the plush purple

mat of Libby's.

****

When Birdie was at school,

Libby, the kitty

went exploring

she would tumble and jumble

in Christie's knitting yarn.

That caused trouble!

****

Christie had a chat with Libby,

To remind her to stay away

from the yarn.

Oh darn!

Libby loved to fumble with

that wonderfully soft, fuzzy yarn.

****

Another time, Birdie came home

with a pet fish.

The little turquoise Betta fish

was named Bubbles,

for all the times

the fish swam to the top

and blew out tiny bubbles.

****

One day, Libby saw Bubbles.

She jumped up onto the

marble kitchen countertop

for a closer look.

****

Libby tried to bat at

Bubbles who swam frantically

from one side to the other

in her round fish bowl.

****

Thankfully, Billy caught Libby

before she got too close

to capturing Bubbles.

****

Another chat between

Christie and Libby.

Libby had to stop

getting into trouble

on the double.

****

Libby purred a little ditty

so it stirred Christie

into forgiving her again.

****

Days and weeks

went sailing by.

Libby was becoming

An excellent little kitty.

****

Until….

Birdie's Birthday.

****

They all dressed

in bright colors and

party clothes.

Libby wore

a pretty purple

sparkling bow.

****

When Libby saw

the four-year-old's cake

full of rainbow sprinkles,

vanilla frosting,

chocolate ice cream

and flaming candles

she had to go

and explore.

****

The sugary scent

called to Libby

"I scream for ice cream,

Come over and play."

She gracefully

pitter pattered

over to see

the ice cream cone

that was upside down

melting all over

the pink frosted

birthday cake.

****

With a swat here,

and a swat there.

Libby enjoyed

making that

sugar cone

slip and slide

on top of the cake.

****

OH NO!

Cried, Billy,

who ran over

to stop

Libby's playful swings.

****

"You are a naughty kitty."

chanted Christie and Billy.

"Go sit on your purple mat

and stop being such a brat."

****

Libby gracefully sat on her

purple plush mat.

She waiting until

No one was looking

Then she happily licked

her tiny little paw.

****

Little chocolate ice cream

was dripping off

her delicate little paw.

*****

Libby the kitty purred

with pleasure

because she knew

that she was

the wittiest kitty

in the city.

****

She got a taste of

that sweet

chocolate

ice cream

that was melting

off her furry little

paws.

Not a cat lover, but not a hater. The child in my brain loved both the artwok and this little story. Cute, playful and a fun read.
