It might be cliche to say but the lasts last
The last goodbye or phone call, the last hug or kiss, the last conversation, the last drive home, the last shared laugh, the last memory
Each of these "lasts" last a lot longer than any of the other memories
They stick with you the longest, make you feel or hurt the hardest, and can make you regret the most
Did I really mean what I said during that last conversation
What even was the last conversation?
Should I have turned around on that last drive away from your house and stayed longer, talked longer, existed with you for longer because now for one reason or another you don't exist in my life
Can you remember the last thing you said to someone you care about?
Was it something said in anger?
Was it something that didn't even really matter like a complaint about a different person?
All this to say life is much to short to not tell the people in your life that you care about them
It's too short to not share what you appreciate about the ones you love
You never know when that last conversation, last hug, last hangout will be
It's your job to make sure that whatever "last" you experience isn't a bad one or one you'll regret
Too often we get complacent in our lives expecting each day to be like that last
Lest we forget to check in on the ones we love
Lest we spend the rest of our time regretting that unexpected "last"

Finally, I got used to your ignoring me, and you got used to my not disturbing me. Yes, you are very busy and I am very sensible.
