Lessons from a Kitten’s Failed Pounce
A Tiny Masterclass in Joyful Imperfection
The ball was red, the floor too slick,
A wobbled leap—a yarny trick!
But tangled paws can’t hide the glee:
"Who cares who wins? Just look at me!"
Sitting on the sofa, I watched my nephew’s kitten play with its reflection on the polished tiles. To distract it, I grabbed a red yarn ball from the basket and tossed it gently onto the floor.
The kitten squeaked and backed away in fear before cautiously creeping forward, its eyes growing wide and shiny with wonder. I could practically hear its thoughts: Oooh! Shiny! Bouncy!
It leaned back, lowering its furry little head, then pounced. But the slippery floor threw off its balance, and instead of catching the ball, it unraveled the yarn.
The kitten struggled to free itself, only getting more tangled. Yet, despite the mess, it seemed perfectly content—as if declaring, "Victory is mine! ...Sort of."
It reminded me of a baby who stumbles into trouble, tries to fix it, fails, and instead of frustration, embraces the chaos with pure delight.
They really can teach us a lot, don’t you think?
