As i watch
decades reduce to moments reduce to memories
compact parcels crammed with information
Your eyes trained straight
ahead fixate
on something, nothing, really, on the water
all the while many-handed
that brain of yours commanded
the whole assembly line
reducing, compacting,
wrapping neat with twine
bits of what once was into
a prayer whispered on the wind:
"Hear me, and understand."
More even than i think you planned
was written in the careful bows
securing what the parcel paper knows
with twine pulled tight;
when i receive and open them
the emergent sparkle betrays
the whole, unblinking, radiant beam of light.
