Going Home In The Middle Of Life

I promised someone very dear to me

that I would never give up;

these lines are dedicated to her…

You died when the birds returned home a

wakening the world to its wonders

It was your favorite time of the year

which is why the sunrise that same morning

was miraculous

You had always said that you would outlive the planets

which is why the sunset that same evening

seemed infinite

I knew you were no longer here

even though you will never leave this place

when I was standing right next to you

and you were the most beautiful painting

I thought to myself I am no longer afraid of dying

when I heard one of the gravediggers murmured to himself:

“I hope I’ll have some time for a smoke…”

a few galaxies behind me

“Did you watch the game last night?”

while the whole Universe was giving birth

to brand new homes for the stars

a few galaxies behind me

Which is exactly what you would have wanted

for it was your favorite time of the year

and the birds kept singing…
