A Few Words About War

What have we done?

If we knew what God was made of

we would be ashamed to be a part of the divine

Can I give you what the Earth gives you?

Who am I to take away what you’ve been given?

Maybe hands are not meant to hold

Maybe hands are meant to let go and shiver

How can I be good and human at the same time?

I knock on my chest to make sure it’s still there and alive

Was it me? Did I cause this?

You open a window to the world and I keep quiet

What is the difference between living and dying?

(I tried counting the stars once)

What is the difference between children burying their mothers and mothers burying their children?

(Is it even possible?)

I keep saying to myself:

God will know what to do

The clouds will know what to do

The hollow seas will know what to do

But is there anybody willing to listen?

Maybe hands are not meant to hold

Maybe hands are meant to let go and shiver
