Kalanchoe

Survivor

By Colleen WaltersPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Hey there, Kalanchoe

What makes you stay so?

You should have died by now

But you survive somehow

Annuals come and go

Grown for temporary show

Beauty is the reason

Spring is the season

of life, love and hope

But you've broadened the scope

for your longevity

By morphing your identity

¥~¥~¥~

A lovely gift last year

You have thrived on neglect

Soaked up every tear

Lived beyond what to expect

Oh, the odds you've defied

By making it this far

Amaze me every day inside

Did you wish upon a star?

To give you more life

Than what you were promised

Surviving through all strife

I'm surprised to be honest

That you're still hanging on

Giving it your all

To meet every dawn

Casting aside any pall

That blocks the sun's rays

Tiny petals unfurl

In their sweetest ways.

¥~¥~¥~

To tell me that I've been

Watering my own garden.
