Is the Sun Where Heaven Could Be?

(and are those steps that I can see?)

Sunset at Blue Bay, Western Australia_ Authors own image_2024

Majestic ball of brightest light,

heating rays from day till night.

Your yellow hue burns my sight;

on summer days, you are just too bright.

*****

Invisible rays each and every day,

a warmth to bathe the children's play.

Except when clouds paint the sky grey,

your powerful rays light up each day.

*****

And when you drop from out the sky,

to signify the night is nigh,

majestic colors you apply,

as your way to say goodbye.

*****

Golden waves when sky meets the sea,

surrounded by tranquility.

Are those steps to heaven, I see?

and is that where my god might be?

*****

And if I dared to climb those stairs,

in single steps or, if brave, perhaps in pairs,

would I meet God atop those stairs?

and would he then answer my prayers?

*****

At night, your light says that you have gone,

but come the next day, you're back at dawn.

Your lot in life for years has been drawn;

tomorrow, you will mark a new day is born.

****

[Author's note: I often write about the ocean, the skies, and the sun. I am blessed with wonderful sunsets like this one all year round. It was almost like steps on this occasion as the sun glistened off the waves.]
