In Color

a poem

By Jenna RosenthalPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I live my life loud and proud,

I see it all in vivid color.

Things are never just black and white,

There are shades of gray and many others.

Like the sky, sometimes I'm blue,

Like Mars, my heart burns red.

From my hands, colors hit the page,

After escaping from my head.

Not afraid to be different, me, myself and I. Lie, that I won't do.

Just like in "Friends" (that's my favorite show) "I'll be there for you."

Impatient though I sometimes am, I'm always just and true.

Proof's in the pudding, er... this poem (poured from my chest and straight on to you).

Blue eyes, pale skin, not free of sin, but still, a heart of gold.

Lover of music and art, a kid at heart, too scared of getting old.

Dressed in black, anxious in gray, no, never pretty in pink.

You should know a rainbow heart is much more common than you think.

So even though some people will always see me as the "other,"

They'll stay stuck in black and white;

I choose to live my life in color.
