Don't believe everything you hear

When I was 5, my kindergarten teacher asked me what I wanted to be when grew up.

I told her I wanted to be a superstar,

She told me if I believed in myself hard enough I could be whatever I wanted to be.

As an adult I learned that was a lie, you can't be whatever you want.

Because being whatever you wanted is like winning the lottery,

You have a higher chance of being struck by lightning then you do on winning the lottery.

By the time you get to your junor year of high school, the teacher tells you to be more practical,

It's called "the starving artist" for a reason.

You need to pick a more practical career in order to pay the bills.

"Well, what if I am not happy with that career choice?"

"Unfortunately, you need to pick something that is practical and makes you satisfied enough."

"What about what I really want?"

"Those are just hopes and dreams but you could do that as a hobby on the side."

Your hopes and dreams aren't necessarily sustainable.

Short story version unless you win the lottery, your dream job is just a dream.

When did following your dreams become unrealistic?
