I am hurting

A poem of outrage

By Lenny ScarlettPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

I am hurting

This dip in the water, the wave of my ever so powerful emotions is hard

It’s cold and loud and silent all at the same time

My heart is aching

Over the abuse I’m witnessing without warning

While feeling so incredibly validated at the clear disgust

and response of opposition at the same time

I am hurting

I am scared, no, terrified of losing my only income

The income of the unemployed

Not for a second have I felt guilty for taking the moments I feel reserve to as payment for the systemic discrimination of my people and gender and identity of humans

Of generations of people

like me

I feel nothing but happiness taking from them

Our government is broken.

It has failed us

We have allowed it to thrive in failing us for too long

I’m over it

I’m over presidents.

I’m over our old and outdated leadership

And I’m really over Congress

We need

We can

Do better.

Stop accepting what is wrong and start demanding what is right.

Stop sharing thinking it’s caring and start throwing facts

and do it before they begin with

the bats

We cannot be comfortable anymore

We cannot be complacent anymore

Our marches are dangerous and our quarantine is useless without justice being served at the hands of the people who have built

Suffered

Died

Struggled

Sacrificed

And marched before us to not have us come to this day screaming and shouting the same signs and phrases that they had just

50 years before!

We are better!

Do better!

You know what is right and wrong and how it can be transformed.

This is our moment.

We can stop waiting now!

Go do it!
