Wounded Hearts

Only hope can end this war

that's been lit, here in my head

To find what I've been looking for

outside these walls of dread.

*

Before the pages yellow

and the books are thrown away

When in self-pity, wallow

wasted years, as fragile clay

*

May I find the cherished wisdom

men of old, fought to acquire

The fortune of the kingdom

forged and fitted, by the fire

*

Held apart from those more common

as a tool to rule and reign

The cost of feast or famine

the eager growth that comes from pain

*

To escape these bars of memory

inside my flesh and bone

a battle with the sensory

from a heart, turned into stone

*

The beats are getting weaker

as the moss begins to grow

The heart an open bleeder

for the ones that hoe the road

surreal poetry

    This is awesome, very touching.

  • Kelli, given everything you've been through & knowing how you have labored fearlessly to hold it all together, you may be one of the strongest women I know. Your heart may feel like an open bleeder, but it bleeds out of love & compassion. That sort of bleeding does not make you weaker (though it may feel it), it is a powerful indicator of just how strong you are. And you have gained as much if not more hard-fought wisdom as anyone I know. You are a champion & appreciated more than you are likely to realize, & I just want to make sure that you hear that. Blessings, my friend. You are amazing & I hope that you can hear that.
