He hates when I write about him

It infringes on his privacy

But I can’t help it if he’s my muse

Or if our conversation inspires me

There is no names used

He just knows how to provoke certain emotions

Before we talked I gave him a warning

I am a poet

Anything you say or do to me will be turned into a poem

Poetry is my diary

I just share it to see how many people relate to me

He understands but still doesn't approve

So I guess I’ll stop sharing my poetry with him, so we can remain cool

Hard not to share something you love, like writing poetry with a good friend. But if not doing so, keeps you two on good terms, I suppose it could be a good compromise. Nicely written 🤗❤️

I think sometimes others don't understand that writers truly do use everything around them as inspiration, including other people. It should be a compliment and is nothing to be ashamed of or feel embarrassed by. Several of my friends love to see my poems, especially when they are inspired by our conversations and even if they aren't the most flattering. I hope you don't always have to keep your poetry hidden from someone you care about.

  • I love this so much, even it if is so very bittersweet. The idea of feeling like you have to hide a part of yourself from someone because they don't completely understand or appreciate where you are coming from; it hurts somewhat, but it also helps you realize who you can share that part of yourself with.
