Happiness in Home

Without spending a penny

If you think happiness comes only:

When you stroll tropical beaches

with plumeria in hair and a margarita...

Or take a cruise to Alaska,

indulging in world-class banquets ..

Or visit Mount Rainier National Park

to gaze at the Perseid meteor shower...

That’s a fallacy.

I believe that joy, and tranquility

can bloom right in own backyard.

After a long day of serving the family,

I finally got a moment of solitude.

I sat to enjoy reflective writing.

Then I stepped into the backyard.

The sky was dark, clear,

sprinkled with scintillating stars,

and I spotted the Big Dipper .

I watered the thirsty plants.

the sprinkles felt therapeutic,

and I inhaled the seductive geosmin,

rising from the parched soil.

I planted bunches of root ends

from spring onions, digging the dirt.

I filled the birdbath with fresh water

for birds to sip and soak feathers.

Soon the kids joined me,

I put them on the bucket swing

and heard cherubic giggles.

You see, happiness can be reaped

without spending a penny,

right in your own home.

You are so right Seema, one can find happiness weeding a garden or just sitting on one's porch just watching whatever or maybe coloring or reading or again whatever.

This is a wonderful and much needed life lesson. Many of us chase after the things we think will make us happy but it's the things closer to home that gives us our true happiness.

As someone who has no pennies to spend, I couldn't agree with this more!
