Greatest Gift We’ve Got

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 17 hours ago 1 min read

Verse 1

I grew up hearin’ folks say

“Keep your heart tucked away,

Don’t let the world see you cry.”

But every time life cut deep,

And I fell down to my knees,

It was tears that kept me alive.

Pre-Chorus

’Cause there’s a strength in the breakin’,

A truth in the achin’,

That no one can take from our hands.

Chorus

Emotion ain’t a weakness, it’s the proof that we’re alive,

It’s the thunder in our heartbeat, it’s the fire in our eyes.

It’s the love that keeps us standin’, even when the world gets rough—

No, emotion ain’t a flaw at all, it’s the greatest gift we’ve got.

Verse 2

There’s a beauty in the fall,

When you’ve risked givin’ it all,

And your voice shakes sayin’ goodbye.

There’s a courage in the fear,

When you let someone draw near,

And you don’t pretend you’re made of iron.

Pre-Chorus

Every laugh, every shiver,

Every tear that we deliver,

Is a prayer that the soul understands.

Bridge

So don’t hide what you’re feelin’,

There’s a power in the revealin’,

And the world needs the truth in your voice.

Let it rise, let it tremble,

Let your heart be the symbol

Of a life that was lived by choice.

Final Chorus

Emotion ain’t a weakness, it’s the proof that we’re alive,

It’s the thunder in our heartbeat, it’s the fire in our eyes.

It’s the love that keeps us standin’, even when the world gets tough—

No, emotion ain’t a flaw at all, it’s the greatest gift we’ve got.

If you want, I can shape this into a darker, more Appalachian version, or something more radio-country and upbeat.
