In a race against the dawn

Tiny fae rush out into the night

To scatter enchanted faery dust

The darkness: cold, silent, august

Stretches to greet their flight

~*~

Ice like skates upon their feet

To glide along each blade of grass

To frost each late bloomed flower

And leaves that held to the last hour

In a sacred pre-dawn mass

~*~

The human world awakens.

The dog sniffs first before he tries

To walk upon the fragile earth

To venture out, expel his mirth

Below clear, open skies

~*~

Icy ridges like mountains

Of glittering cosmic dust

The child’s fingers upon glass scratches

Creating piles of diamond ashes

Covering dirt and rust

~*~

There is winter in the garden

The oranges of the marigold

Now adorned in pearly lace

With glitter bobbing on its face

Warmth that shines beneath the cold

~*~

For all the earth is wondrous

Frosted with opal breath

The season that is most pure

The annual reset of nature

Promising both life and death

~*~

Would that the human eye

Were small enough to view

That microcosm of delight

Beauty of the silver blight

Kaleidoscope of frozen dew

nature poetry

This is just sublime. Seriously. Love it. Love the sense of magic and grandeur, but also the way you focus on the smallest changes too in the season as frost takes hold. Was spellbound by your words from the first line to the very last! Congrats on writing such a stunning piece and for your First Place Win! You have a new subscriber!
