Fools Gold

And Apathy

he took my heart

through fields of gold

with a promise of forever

left me in a five and dime

another undiscovered treasure

a stakers claim, left void and null

wanderlust and empty pockets

a pan of nothing for a fool

another face scratched in a locket

four lanes in a wagon

second row of half filled seats

one faced forward, tailpipe draggin'

windows down, collecting heat

heading bravely off to somewhere

no-one brave enough to say

that everywhere we go, is nowhere

when you are no-one, to be saved

christmas lights and tv dinners

traditions skipped a generation

plaques fill shelves, everyday winners

to dignify self preservation

another year has come and gone

little achieved little pursued

when everything is said and done

exactly what have we accrued

Great job transposing the needless collection of things with a failing love

  • Beautifully expressed melancholia

My favorite part: no-one brave enough to say that everywhere we go, is nowhere… Truly a lonely poem. Very nicely executed.
