on stretcher

bleeding

caked mud

starving

thirst deep

clothes too big

jungle takes shoes

I wash hands, wounds

give ginseng

goji

tokay gecko

rice

stay too long

risk much

_____

stares out window

not speaking

not soldier, not army

_____

foolish American

_____

place stones

smile some

_____

bright eyes

hides scars

laughs low

_____

cut bandage from dress—no one sees

point to door

go

shakes head

he not go

no one coming
