Postcard to My Sister
who believes in second marriages
Dear Sis,
George and I
ate Beefaroni
on our wedding night.
Dusty bottles of Boones Farm,
a 60-watt bulb,
and plastic tablecloth
flung over
cardboard moving boxes
to create the mood.
Brand new forks
screeched
against brand new china.
We sat crossed legged
on chilly coats
of sticky old linoleum
staring out naked windows
smacking at ants
with flip-flops.
Did I mention
George lost
the tickets
to Hawaii
somewhere between
I do
and
do you mind?
Oh, and Jimmy Fallon
was surprisingly dull
last night.
Don’t ask.
I’ll fill you in
during my next visit,
which will be so much sooner
than anyone expected.

LOL...that line about Jimmy Fallon, kinda held it all together really! Seriously, aside from the Fallon line...I loved how authentic this sounded!
