Fly With the Bats

A poem

After the crescent moon sets

When the night is at it’s darkest

As the birds are settled for the night

Out come the bats, feasting on insects

Swooping and swirling

Loop de loops

Kamikaze air dive

In a beatific aerial ballet, they fly

And in the midst, you may be surprised

Is Old Mother Combs joining in the dance

On this unluckiest of nights

She’ll be warding against evil

And sprinkling all with good luck

Mother Combs

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
