Flower Girl

By Mackenzie Rose

As the petals drop

From my hand,

I look at them in yearning.

If only I

Could be as beautiful.

If only I was vibrant, red.

As the petals land

On the ground,

I imagine them.

If things were different,

Would they fade?

If their roots were tangled

Would they give up?

There are no

red rose petals now.

There is only a

Single blue rose.

I guess

It’s God’s way of teaching.

I guess

He’s reminding me:

Not all roses are red.

But blue roses

can be just as

beautiful.
