Floorboard Whispers

Thinking about books shoved in walls.

I found you out.

Peeled up the floorboards

And peered into the dark.

.

Books, piles of them.

Millions of them

Crowding up the walls.

.

But they weren't written

In your hand

Or even with your words.

.

It was a delicate scrawl,

Feminine and pretty like the voice

I could just barely hear.

.

A good author

Always has a strong voice,

Isn't that right?

.

She sounded pretty.

Airy, light, similar to the light

Streaming through forest trees.

.

But as the confessions drew on

She sounded uglier,

Like words I'd never speak.

.

How long had she slept

Under the floor of our house,

Whispering in her untroubled sleep?

.

Decades,

I can feel it in my bones,

The white knuckles I throw down.

.

Not my own.

Those ache with the betrayal

Of those whispers.

.

Never considered a hidden book could be like a ghost, haunting you. This is such a cool contemplation! I grew increasingly more creeped out as I read; Poe-like (Tell Tale Heart). Now I want to read a short story based on this idea...

Oh interesting! Finding that many books, they seem like diaries, would have been a wonderful treasure! Shame that the author seems to have done something despicable. Also, I tagged you in this game that Mackenzie is running :) I hope that's ok, I'll throw the link to the challenge below https://shopping-feedback.today/writers/tag-photo-game%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E I chose one of my photos for you 'snowglobe' :)
