Instructions for disappearing

By Ian VincePublished 5 months ago Updated 5 months ago 1 min read

You must first make movement an inevitability.

You wear motion as a helix,

A controlled, coiling, corkscrew of deliberate intent and fear.

Restrained, reactive and bent to hear whatever the wind whispers

To only you. It’s always, ever, only you.

As soon as the day is folded,

Pack your quiet wife, your children, your chattels and leave.

Head west and cling to the carmine, sinking sun.

At night, the end is a new beginning, you say.

They say nothing. It’s always, ever, only you.

Once you leave, you say the past is erased,

Fresh starts, new friends and a better resolution.

But you’ve already left the next place, your leg tensed and twitching

Ready to react to the wind whisper

They can't hear. It’s always, ever, only you.

They are left behind in a never-ending lack of resolution,

An uncoiling helix, their broken spiral.

You left them long ago. It’s always, ever, only you.
