Flee Not This Flame

Not now: An un-invitation

Unrestrained passion

That conjurer of portal thresholds

rimmed not with flame

but inferno

Otherworldly heat

begets

other worlds

Fires that defy natural laws

reason

constraints of flesh and blood

For consummation

only terrifies the unholy

Surrender

NOT understanding

seeks protection here

Heights of pleasure find breeding grounds

Flights of leisure feel immortality sounds

Yet blaze still yearns for more

as every piece of matter in you must ignite

Explode your expanse

Absorb totality of wayward fight

There can be no other way

to take such path’s unspoken vow

Yield to its fire and yield to now

No thing in thee shall be left unchanged

No brush of lip

nor curve of chest

Desire’s heights

unleased its best

There is

no

road back

but do not weep

For when intensity wanes

after ethereal flame has won

Celestial ash will bless past suffering

and transform worlds

of twain

into world of ceaseless one

You have given me such a gift of joy in reading my poem. Kindest of thanks!

It was written for the 'Vocal Last Flame Challenge,' worthy of all its heartfelt-penned entries for such an inspiring prompt. Therefore, I send a wish for you that fire cleanses, heats and inspires, creating a unifying force in your life always.

💖Your hyperbole was a good move. I saw a small fire, but when my eyes danced with the letters in "inferno," I immediately saw the power in your choice of diction. Boy, did that passion rise from small to grand. Your diacope, placing the word "NOT" between the two words you wanted to distinguish, was clever, loud, and clear. Is it that we surrender understanding instead of surrendering that which will destroy?💖 Your isocolon, those two lines you called to our attention in italics, made them seem like clues to a code I never had access to.

So good. I love the "worldly" scale of the poem. I'll highlight two of the many, many lines I enjoyed - "...consummation only terrifies the unholy..." and "...transform worlds of twain..." Great work!

There’s a strong cadence throughout, especially in the way short, declarative lines interrupt the longer, flowing ones. This push and pull mirrors the poem’s central tension between surrender and resistance.

Those who make the world of ceaseless one are so lucky. Deep and heartfelt words of passions glow or not glow.

  • "Heights of pleasure find breeding grounds Flights of leisure feel immortality sounds" Whoaaaa, those two lines were mindblowing! Loved your poem!
