fear; make it known

a stream of consciousness piece

By angela hepworthPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

it is easy to wonder why we are taught to swallow our words, complaints and worries dissolving on our tongues like salt; only sugar can leave our mouths, even as it only falls out in sickening, sopping clumps; confidence is treachery, succumbing is natural, normal, a peaceful, simple order, a bended knee to the knees on our necks, crushing us as we apologize for not dying any faster; what world is this, that lying in certain, pretty swirls, in delicate, thin-scrawled fonts, is rewarded while honesty and courage is continually stomped down on like a bug, a disgusting, insignificant, lower thing, something that makes us weak; what if appeasing the ones who ruin us is not a strength, but a world of pain we all submit to without a second thought; what if that thought alone ruins us?

Very true and powerful words in this poem. Great poem.

  • Very powerful. Much in tune with what is going on right now in the world. A world where good people are being threatened and bullied to go along with what the people who spread lies and disinformation. People also succumb to the threats and the bullying. We need to stand up against all of that because that’s just not the way it should be. This was very well written and really strikes accord with me. Excellent work, Angela.

  • "crushing us as we apologize for not dying any faster" Omgggg, that line hit me soooo hard! 😭😭😭😭😭 Loved this!

This is poignant and poetic, angela. "What if appeasing the ones who ruin us is not a strength" - this line hit hard.

    Oh this is fantastic!

  • The lines between right and wrong are sometimes so blurred. So true, indeed.

This is so true in the world we live in. Good is evil and evil is good! Crazy. You just have to yourself, true to yourself and stand on it. Never be afraid to speak up!
