Fairy Tales

A poem

My soul has clung to a fairy tale—

I read it in a book somewhere

That a Prince Charming would come

Into my life and sweep me off my feet.

Instead, no one will come as I

Look out my window for hours, days, years.

I go out and look instead,

But Prince Charmings run from me.

Or become casual friends and just

Do a lot of talking.

Maybe there is no One True Love;

My hope begins to crumble—

Who will come to my aid?

And will he have something to soothe my pain?

I sigh and continue the search.
