Fairy Tales

A Poem

By Mihaela VasilevaPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

Once Upon a Time,

A girl went away.

With her heart heavy,

She could not stay.

She was found by a stranger,

In the bittersweet night.

He told her he loved her,

She ran away from sight.

On her way, she found a well

And in it a coin she threw.

But then she ran away again,

In a new day she withdrew.

The stranger returned, with a purse in his hand,

Told her she had dropped it when she ran.

She didn’t care for an instant, what they thought of her.

She reflects on the past

With a polite murmur.

She told herself, she would not flee again.

So what if they found her? They’d have to face the truth.

She knew herself better than anyone,

But could she prove her worth?

Alone she rests in the oak’s branches

With her mind heavy in thought.

How could she sell her soul and demand to be bought?

The world never let her rest,

Nor did it forgive her when it could.

She didn’t wish to be saved, and she wished someone else would

see the stars that twinkle in her eyes

She is fair, she is good, yet asks is she wise?

Is she worth it, I ask you? Please do reply.

I’d hate to leave you on an ending

That may as well be a lie.

So tell me, do you save a soul so uncertain of itself,

Or leave the story resting on the shelf.

Such is the story I write to you,

I hope it’s sound and clear.

But yet you haven’t read it, and yet want to,

don’t you, my dear?
