Everlasting

what home means to me

By Aishwarya RanePublished 4 years ago 2 min read

Two eyes that look familiar

A smile as sweet as nectar

Home travels from the surface of your lips to your fingertips

Home soothes scars and stops you from falling apart

The warmth of a lover and the comfort of an old cardigan

Whiffs of chocolate and a sky full of stars

Home resides in the depth of your heart

A spotless reflection of who you are

Sealed in a pickle jar

Hidden in a keychain shaped like a heart

Treasured through pendants and rings

Measured by the happiness it brings

Home freezes moments as life passes you by

Free like a bird in the blue sky

Holds you softly when you want to cry

Rekindles the calm you felt at five

When you are loveable despite flaws, it is home

Where the past or future cease to plague your mind, it is home

When your intricacies are not overlooked, it is home

Where sunsets do not give rise to heaviness, it is home

In a melody that accompanies your creamy cup of morning coffee

Home transcends concrete walls

In the cool breeze that brushes against your skin one evening

Home unravels a myriad of emotions

Where do you go when you are hurt and hollow?

What do you need on your darkest days?

How do you persevere with no one around?

Who guides you when you want to be found?

Home is tender, invigorating, magical and healing

Home is a shapeshifting childhood blanket

Home replaces fear with faith

Home can be physical, emotional or spiritual

Where you radiate the stillness and certainty of the moon

Experiences that require you to be patient and graceful

People who inspire you to emerge from your cocoon

When you no longer desire to be hateful

Home differs with age and location but feels the same

Home reminds you to put yourself first

Home helps you wash away the shame

Home stops you from anticipating the worst

Where will you find your home next?

What makes a fragrance or movie so special?

How do flowers become band-aids for the broken-hearted?

When did food replace friendship?

In the silence that surrounds you at dawn

While swaying to your favorite song

During a walk in a thriving garden

On an airplane to a land that is foreign

Home is inescapable

Home is everlasting
