Driven

A Poem

By Erica (Joyce) ThompsonPublished 7 years ago 1 min read
I wrote this poem back in 5/27/2017

I say this as a warning,

For I say this as a warning.

Do not,

Do not fall in love with me.

I won’t take you to the highest mountains,

And we won’t gaze upon the stars,

But I will take you to a place you didn’t know existed,

Deep within your heart.

So do not fall in love with me,

Because you’ll forget what it is to feel pain,

And that my dear,

Is the only thing that keeps us sane.

But once you fall in love with me,

I will have many things to show you.

One of which, could be revealed,

Soon within this daze.

An insanity that causes oblivion,

Through a whole new type of pain.

Irony within a set of words because our hearts cannot be tamed.

So when I say this as a warning,

I am asking you to run away,

Make it up to be something as stupid as a little faze.

Whatsoever you must tell yourself,

To make it all just go away.

But I know that I will linger,

Through the space between your ears,

In raging silence, repeating that we “were just a phase.”

This wasn’t meant to bring on heartache,

But in hopes to start a flame.

For you to keep on trying to pass this fear,

That you cannot contain.

You are not alone,

Because I will feel this too.

And as easy as it is to fall apart,

You will only sustain to have my undivided heart.

So I say this as a warning,

To leave is to question,

To stay is to know.

Three last words

"Please don’t go."
