she sat in the field
watching the birds flying by
though she never understood
why the clouds made her cry
filled her heart with emotions
that took her away
like the breeze over the ocean
on a warm summer day
she'd close her eyes tightly
take a deep breath and sigh
she wondered, if trying
could her hopes make her fly
then she could soar in the clouds
with those birds in the sky
floating high above the ground
telling her sorrows goodbye
and understand their connection
with her feet in the wind
never knowing rejection
the zephyr, as her friend
then she opens them slowly
to her fears greatest calamity
she will always and only
be a captive to gravity

Oooo, this was so melancholic. Loved your poem!
You are the' mistress of rhyme' Kelli (in a nice way ,no offense intended). I find myself swaying with your lines as they go back and froth in a poetic motion. Lovely
Very poignant, deep and intense! Well written!
Wow so deep. But love how relatable it it.
Those final two lines are so well-done and weighty! Great job!
Another beautiful poem, Kelli.
Such a beautiful and emotional poem, capturing dreams, longing, and the weight of reality.
