Not Really Dead

Reborn

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago 1 min read

all it took was a stubborn seed

to pierce the ground and slay the weed

breakthrough the obstacles that be

bury the root. to set her free

all i could see was a fragile stem

pastel petals for a diadem

if not for her i'd never dreamt

that i could bloom, renewed again

colors pushing through the ground

with no applauses to be found

into the dirt she had been bound

until her efforts revealed her crown

now she rises to the sky

so effortless, she needn't try

her beauty brings tears to my eyes

as she leaves her grave behind

What a wonderful way to imagine the growing of a plant (or even a child). I'll never look at my flowers again without thinking of this poem. Brilliantly done.
