Downstream From Hope
Just about all has been washed away…
for so long, i've been victim to the waves, flooded with doubt‐
for how long, will i be left down here? somehow drowning in a drought‐
for too long, i've been swimming at the bottom of the ocean
moving with the motions, living in commotion
i've been down here for too long, i'm dying in slow motion
my blood and tears mix in the water as i continue descending in demotions
fear circles around me on my way down,
i'm drowning in emotions,
soon to be floating in false notions
anchored by the secrets i keep,
i can't see the light from down here, the water's too deep‐
and i can only sow from the flow that i reap
a fateful river brought me to this place that i sleep
without a voice to scream, a lost sheep
unguided and blind, soon to step off of impulse's steep
a soul in need that only a stream of sin continues to feed
i cannot climb, the hill of devotion is far too steep
how long? until my empty body floats across the top of the sea‐
my blotted mind, leashed by imagination‐ but is peace too far to see?
deafened by sheer emotion, i can only hear commotion
if only i could remove the motions
maybe i could find some kind of promotion
but until then, i can only accept the ocean
drowning in, my own soul
no hope for me to breathe
drowning in doubt, patterns new and old
soon to not have a soul to feed

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.

This was amazing and relatable as I was in a depression for a few years not long ago . It's learning to swim with the dolphins . Works if only in your imagination . Great poem
This was so poignant and intense. Loved your poem!
