Dear Moon,
When I was small,
I saw you first through glass.
A bus window trembling through night.
You followed us home, silent, silver, sure.
My mother said you were only light,
but I knew you chose to watch.
You arrived before we did.
Waiting over our house.
Even then, I felt your pull,
soft as breath,
old as sorrow.
Now I am grown,
and you still speak,
through tides and dreams.
You turn my moods,
you sooth my sleep.
They say you rule water,
so you must rule me.
For I am Pisces,
a vessel of shifting depths.
I do spells,
and you listen,
you bring my desire.
You light the darkest of my nights.
Men have walked on you,
I have worshiped your mysterious ways.
When I am lost, you rise.
When I am quiet, you listen.
When I am broken, you never turn away.
Your face changes,
yet you never leave.
I think you know my secrets.
The tears I’ve given to your light.
The prayers I never spoke aloud.
Each one drifts to you,
like a current seeking its moon.
If I could, I would send you thanks.
For following that bus.
For finding me again in every life.
For holding the parts of me
that cannot stay still.
Yours always,
The child who still looks up,
and the adult who understands your beauty.
My lovely friend,My Moon.
