D~ DENIAL

Deep within your heart, the rhythm of your life's force is suspended

Desperation giving way to a tragic sense of unbelief, of loss

Happiness now but a fleeting wisp of forgotten yesterdays

Trapped within one moment's space and untimely breath

Eyes blinded to truth, reality and acceptance

Seeing only illusions, unrealism and a pained desire

For life as it was before your world fell forever apart

 You DENIED.

A~ ANGER

Reaching up hands in supplication, soul weepingly agony wracked

Your prayer unanswered, your every fiber of being is aroused

To depths of vexation, annoyance and frustration

For, what once was, will be no more within your fond embrace

Time has shifted, your world now rearranged towards darkness

 You are ANGERED.

B~ BARGAINING

Deep anguished and unanswered questions are propelled

Projected into the vast empty spaces of the universe

Why me? Why him? Why her? Why them? Why anything anymore?

Please, let it not be so. I will do anything, give anything

Just let it not be so. Make it like it was before

I will alter time and tide, become better

Be kinder, be sweeter, become more humble, be good

If only there could be a reversal of that one single moment

When unbearable loss, erased happy, leaving numbness

Ensconced within an empty, cold and unfeeling shell!

 You BARGAINED.

D~ DEPRESSION

You can no longer feel. Stillness is now the forte of the tired mind

Movement hurts, so you lie still, curled within your inner self

Sustenance is forgotten, hygiene no longer is tantamount to health

Nothing matters anymore, you wait for the quiet of forever

To wrap you within a cloak of fine silk and lay you down

Into a sleep of forgetfulness, peace and contentment

Where all is forgotten, and sweet sleep steals you away

 You are DEPRESSED!

A~ ACCEPTANCE

You slept deep and long. Finally awakened by warm sunlight

Gently caressing your cheeks, heralding the start of a new day

As your hands reach for the prism within the newly born rays

You experience the euphoria of a new beginning

The cycle of life must go on, that never ending circle that is us

Must needs be continued with each new breath that we take

So you arise to meet the new day. The world now awaits

What needs be done must be done, we go on

 You have achieved ACCEPTANCE!

 All shall be well!

When Great Trees Fall

By Maya Angelou~ ~~~~~~~

When great trees fall,

rocks on distant hills shudder,

lions hunker down

in tall grasses,

and even elephants

lumber after safety.

When great trees fall

in forests,

small things recoil into silence,

their senses

eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die,

the air around us becomes

light, rare, sterile.

We breathe, briefly.

Our eyes, briefly,

see with

a hurtful clarity.

Our memory, suddenly sharpened,

examines,

gnaws on kind words

unsaid,

promised walks

never taken.

Great souls die and

our reality, bound to

them, takes leave of us.

Our souls,

dependent upon their

nurture,

now shrink, wizened.

Our minds, formed

and informed by their

radiance,

fall away.

We are not so much maddened

as reduced to the unutterable ignorance

of dark, cold

caves.

And when great souls die,

after a period, peace blooms,

slowly and always

irregularly. Spaces fill

with a kind of

soothing electric vibration.

Our senses, restored, never

to be the same, whisper to us.

They existed. They existed.

We can be. Be and be

better. For they existed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
May they forever be songs sung within our hearts.
