Consecration and Desecration

From Dusk to Dawn. Second sonnet attempt. A more traditional take.

La Vie By Pablo Picasso(Life time: 1973) - Original publication: Painted in 1903 Immediate source: [1], PD-US, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=39956338

Illumination consecrates, e'en mates

In the heat of night, we take our delight

Infiltrate the contract, moonstruck creates

As dusk turns to dawn, life breathes into light

~

Bestial human, in light of a new moon

Meshed together to breathe forth a child

Forthcoming baby, is due very soon

Our meshed bodies afire, passions wild

~

I cannot recall life without shadow

Taking form, ruling me in the darkness

Even when life is a dense, green meadow

Joy from love's bow still brings with it abyss

~

I against I, no darker, a battle

I against I, the spark to prove mettle

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: My second attempt at a sonnet is a much more traditional take. In that it is 14 lines, made up of three quatrains and a couplet. There is a volta and each line has 10 syllables, a must for iambic pentameter.

So there you go, your boy, Paul, pulling out the most traditional take on a traditional poem form. The painting was chosen afterwards to try and match the themes, and is La Vie by Pablo Picasso, from his Blue Period.

It's cool to see your creativity work within traditional landscapes. Coupled with the picture, this sets a sort of dark, feral mood. I don't know if that makes any sense, but this really is wonderful. Loved it!

This is a stunner, Paul! So many lines that transport’d I dare not name them all, though ‘As dusk turns to dawn, life breathes into light’ is my fave. Great entry to the challenge! And I love the pic! I’m a big fan of Picasso ‘s blue period!

Damn, that image. A lot going on in there. This poem is about to be great I can tell. Standing ovation In the first few lines. But that first line though. Hats off, hats off. I absolutely love the second quatrain. So amazing what a woman's body can do. Your confessions ring through. So human. Very very touching. I love how you described life as like a dense green meadow. I won't even attempt to choose a favourite line. I would fail not to copy the whole thing and present it back to you. 'I against I' whatever you did to come up with this. Do it again. Lol. Seriously. This made the rest of what you said powerful. It's no secret something as simple as this when placed well, could do wonders. Outstanding work as always Paul 🤗❤️

I love when poets bring paintings to life with a tale. Well done, lad! Beautifully wrought.

So dark and wild, bringing the act of lovemaking and life-bringing into a whole new light (or shadow). I particularly like the line “Joy from love's bow still brings with it abyss”. Shows that there’s a dark side even to love—that every rose has its thorn.

Carnal and grisly. I like it! Especially this line: life breathes into light. That's a great image.
