Conditional Love

A Poem

You say there’s a heaven above

And you’re filled with unconditional love

But I have seen the lie in both

I have seen what you will

And will not accept

That you will only accept me

The way you see me in your mind’s eye

Or if I’m willing to lie down

And die to what and who you want me to be

But otherwise

You never have, nor will you ever love me for me

Such a huge part of the human condition. No matter our protestations to the contrary, unconditional love is almost as hard to find as it is to live.
