Don't bite off more than you can chew.

Too much can stop you from having a blast.

Taking on too much will make you blue.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

It would be better to schedule a crew.

Time is limited and goes by too fast.

Don't bite off more than you can chew.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

Overextending yourself, you knew

it would lead to aghast.

Taking on too much will make you blue.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

Standing in line in a queue

feeling like an outcast.

Don't bite off more than you can chew.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

Restrain yourself from getting into a stew.

Remember, your choices are vast.

Taking on too much will make you blue.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

Choosing what you want to do,

when you are asked.

Don't bite off more than you can chew.

Taking on too much will make you blue.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

Author's notes: The best part of writing a Villanelle poem is that you don't have to count syllables. While there are nineteen lines, the pattern is ABA, ABA, ABA, ABA, ABA, ABAA.

By the way, this will be my second attempt. This time following the repeated lines in the proper place and stanza.

Today, Judey's motivational story reminded me of the choices we make. Admittedly, the story triggered my thoughts on choices. Hopefully, we remember to make wise choices.

Knowing the phrase, don't bite off more than you can chew wasn't in Judey's story. Yet, the thought played over and over in my mind like a broken record. It has been ages since someone admonished, "Don't bite off more than you can chew." Now, I'm sure that the phrase is considered archaic.

With the holidays, there is a tendency to overdue and overextend. A reminder to everyone slow down and make wise choices. Be kind to yourself. Taking on too much will make you blue.

Thank you for reading! Would love your comments.

I keep thinking that at the moment, vocal is more than I can chew, I should put it aside till after Christmas, but I keep popping back for a nibble.
