Chocodiles

A Tragedy of Epic Proportion

I think that there shall never be

A snack from any entity

~

That comes within a hundred miles

Of tasty Hostess® Chocodiles.

~

A spongy, golden, cream-filled treat,

In chocolate shell, so smooth and sweet,

~

Packed chock-full of preservatives

And other food alternatives,

~

Was just the perfect thing, it seems,

To fulfill a young boy's dreams.

~

Yes, Mom's divinity was grand

And homemade taffy, pulled by hand,

~

But those took time and love and care

And those who helped, got their fair share,

~

While any old convenience store

Was stocked with Chocodiles galore,

~

Just waiting for a kid with change

To come within temptation's range.

~

Alas, my friends, there came a day

When all that goodness went away

~

And I, betrayed, was left without,

And mankind's future left in doubt.

I know Hostess brand well, but never met the chocodiles. Sounds yummy though. Oh those lovely sweets of youth, where have the years gone, so much preservatives, you think we would all be dead by now. Guess we are now immune, hahahha

  • I've not had this before but your descriptions of it made me realise that we have an equivalent of it here with a different name. It's called Apollo cake. I'll leave a picture of it in the comment below. Loved your poem!

This was so good, Dana! The rhyme and flow were excellent! So many clever and nostalgia filled lines! Never had a chocodile and based on your poem that feels like a travesty!

I love that our future hinges on this sweet treat 🤣🤣. Great answer to the challenge.

Oh no. We're doomed. Lol. That was wonderful. Not sure I've ever seen them around these parts.

  • Never fear should you happen upon one left over from such bygone times, for they are sure to be as fresh as the day the came off the line. My wife calls all such things "petroleum byproducts". And I'm sure that if you simply get an x-ray, any half competent technician will be able to point out exactly where several are still lodged within your system, little changed from what they were when they entered, lol.
