Would you if you could?

I miss the good ol’ days of yesterday,

my childhood memories long past.

With no idea how fast time would fly,

there’s no magic that can bring them all back.

*

Summer nights spent watching the stars,

long, slow summer days, seemed to go on for weeks.

Summer fun filled days, not a care in the world,

the Sun kissed freckles and left them on my cheeks.

*

Family reunions, games in the yard,

bike rides and days at the lake.

Mom and dad making our childhood dreams great,

Showing us love, whatever it takes.

*

We were poor then, but didn’t know that we were,

we had all that we needed and more.

Too soon we grew up and forgot what we had,

started comparing and then keeping score.

*

My parents worked hard to show us the truth,

they knew one day that we would recall.

All the treasures of youth, made us rich beyond things,

and love matters most, afterall
