Breaking The Chain

Perseverance

Breaking The Chain

30 years to the date.

How does one escape one's fate?

How does one escape one's faith?

A whole generation lost off hate.

A baby girl,

brought into this world,

with the odds against her.

A clammed up pearl,

ready to unfurl,

with temptations ready to lure her.

Before she could speak,

her mother was weak,

no choice but to be strong.

Her father wasn't there.

Why should she care?

Her voice said men were all wrong.

Drugs were the vice,

so when asked her advice,

the response was incoherent.

Rebelled out of spite,

why bother doing right?

Life was an interference.

So she had a daughter,

like her mother before her,

and just wasn't ready.

Thoughts to abort her,

knew that would be slaughter,

so she chose to be steady.

Educated herself,

a degree from college,

all with a full-time job.

She didn't do it for wealth,

so her skills were polished,

now her baby's youth, would not be robbed.

Three decades after she still maintains.

With most of her goals well attained.

With Her past, never to blame.

Her daughter thanks her, for Breaking The Chain.
