Blazing Toward The Lion's Gate
An entry in the Road Drops Here Challenge

Crouched down in the starting blocks, I'm in lane eight
Lifting my head, my eyes pierce the runway
Envisioning I take first place
A brush with insecurity takes me to my recent injury
Is my leg fully healed? Will I win this race?
Not long ago, I was at the top of my game
Then the meniscus tear, all the pain
Benched for months; all I could do was wait
Regaining composure, I kiss my citrine pendant
Tuck it under my uniform, praying for courage
A ground release of ozone; smell of rain
Nods to me as I prepare for the starting gun
***
POP...
Out of the blocks, we are a stampede of mustangs
Charging down the track without the noise
Side-eyeing the stiff competition
We are neck-in-neck; it's too hot to handle
Mindful of my leg, I run with respect
But my alter-ego is the leader of Pride
Halfway to the finish, leniency diminishes
Lightning strikes
Spiritual sun of Sirius speaks; it's time to get serious
It's time to release the lion inside
***
"There's a brief portal of opportunity; the road drops here!"
Words from source or a higher power
Shout out to Tarot: This is a tower moment
Flashbacks, presented, recalling the fall
Downpour, pouring rain
Triggers my strength; I shall not crumble
Humble to Heirophant
I step it up, heartbeat to flames under my feet
It's time to light up the pace of this track meet
Reclaiming the maker of my own fate
The ROAR of one thousand inner lions takes over
Finish line tape awaits, draping my determination
It's time to mean it, make it mighty
So I put my back into it and lean.......

Author's note: My entry celebrates the Lion's Gate Portal, which peaks on August 8, 2025. The race, although fictional, draws parallels to personal life moments and the courage and strength required to take action to obtain desirable results.
Happy Lion's Gate Portal, everyone! Remember: to truly manifest means putting in the work, not just dreaming about it!
The road drops here; what's your next move?

This is a wonderful in-depth work of poetry! Excellent work, Marilyn!
Like Lamar, I felt that drive. Great stuff, Marilyn!
Oh wow, this was extremely powerful! Loved your take on this challenge!
What a really great poem and a way to live life. Good job.
I absolutely love this. You had us starting on the ground. Then while we were there you showed us the injury. Made us feel the fear of not winning. The doubts creep in. You even gave the name of the injury. The symbol of the citrine pendant, what it means to have it there... Oh 😲 wow. The lightening, making us want to get more serious in the race. The bustle of it, I feel like I am really there and all I want to do is win. YES!!! put your back into it and lean. I feel so pumped up right now. This was a clever take on the challenge. One brimming with motivation 🤗❤️
I think it’s a stroke of brilliance that in your opening line you say lane 8. That added realism and from then on you brought emotion symbols of struggle not in one race but in the race of our lives.
This one has GRIT! I love it 😁
I loved this, Marilyn! The symbolism, the parallels to your own struggles, the rush of doing something you love, something meaningful and the tie to the Lion's Gate. What a great piece!!
Nicely done, Marilyn. I could feel the determination to succeed. And the author’s note is a burst of inspiration. I love astronomy and will align myself with the portal today in hopes of manifesting whatever it is that I want.
