Bit O' Cackle

A Bit of Hallows' Eve Fun

The words ring loud: "Double, Double Toil and Trouble"

While she stirs a spoon encased in knobby, gnarly knuckles,

Something smelly and delicious is cooking - ready to eat?

The old hag assures the fresh and gamey taste can't be beat.

*

The evil witch's cackle invades and lingers to surround

Shivers run up and down your spine at the sound,

Steam escapes, rising from the huge black pot -

Holy hell! Fear fills your soul. Can this be your lot?

*

“Come hither, dearie,” a crooked finger bends and begs.

Terror seizes hold - there's no sensation left in your legs.

“I promise you'll not feel a thing,” the old crone cackles.

“You'll do nicely - you're more juicy than the apples."

*

Eyes wide, you shake and tremble, stumbling back -

Dear God! You don’t want to be this hag’s midnight snack.

Your mouth falls open, intent to produce a scream -

Then you're awake! Thank heavens, it’s but a bad dream.

*

Stupefied, you head to the kitchen for a wee drink

'Cause the evil hag has managed to take you to hell's brink -

The door swings wide - you can't mask your surprise -

There stands the witch in her diabolic, insatiable guise.

Oh this was phenomenal, the way the words worked so well together excites me. It was electrifying so satisfying, I felt the Halloween spirit and I was scared but yet so captivated by your magic and talent.

Happy Halloween!! That is quite the nightmare. The witches at the door were trick or treaters right. Great work.

Well-wrought! That's pretty much how breakfast goes at my place... I really should give Elphaba a raise.
