Poem about being brave, quoted by My Dinner With Andre

By Melissa IngoldsbyPublished 3 years ago 1 min read
Lady Day

lastly, how can I stand

If not like a sturdy, gripping, gorgeous face, the sun drenched peak of futility and warmth and sadness

The rarity of her stuff, she puts it out in my face

I can’t hide, I don’t want to

Don’t need to

Can I be brave

As brave

As nearly as brave

As such a great endless Day?

She is like my

Moonrise peak, Milk-Eyes,

Don’t surmise

That I can’t believe what’s in front of my very soul

No.

She tore down all walls,

She tore down the toughest side of a facade

She tore me like a crazy scrambled mess

And rarified, she threw out jewels from her throat at all of us

Drowning my lonely love in a dreamless well,

A rare, new mineral that was only found inside the catacombs of radio waves and skidding

Vinyl.
