Beautiful child
while you sleep and dream
angels encamp around you
watching over you
Of what do you dream little one
as you smile contentedly
safely ensconced in your pillow of down
Or are you lost somewhere
sad, alone and waiting to be found
Sleep, little one
for in sleep you know no worry
you are bathed in the perfection of light
where dark has no power or right
Good tries with all it's might
to protect you as best she can
If I am honest though
sometimes bad can grab a hold
and once in a while he wins
Still good fights the fight
and wins tomorrow
for is not the light
the thing for which we ever hope
will win for ninety nine of
one whole hundred
Sleep little angel
those lost will be found
see you in the morn

Great-Grandfather Eldridge’s Poetry
Recently, I learned that my great-grandfather, on my fathers side of the family, wrote quite a bit of poetry. A family member put together a book of his poetry. I had no idea until recently. It was such a wonderful pleasure connecting to his words, written so long ago! I had never met him because he died long before I was born. From what I’ve been told, his wife died during childbirth. It makes me wonder how similar I may be to some of my ancestors, in the fashion in which I reflect and write.

I agree with Dharrsheena. This can easily read like a lovely lullaby. It took me back to when my little ones were actually little and the joy I felt whenever they were sleeping peacefully.
