Introduction
This sculpture is frighteningly powerful. I used the whole sculpture for a pantoum which you can read here.
But this particular shot (no pun intended) set off another idea for a poem based on the Nancy Sinatra song "Bang, Bang" and the statue. It has to be a villanelle this time.

You Fired Your Guns, Grinning As Your Shells Hit
Laughing Madly As I Fell To The Ground

You Spilled My Blood, No Regret , Not One Bit
Bang, Bang You All Lined Up And Shot Me Down

Bang, Bang Your Guns Were All I Heard Resound
You Wanted Me Dead, That Was Your Remit

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
