Awaiting In Anticipation

The time has arrived

Sitting, waiting in anticipation,

The day has finally arrived,

We are loaded into a cramped plane,

Waiting for this beast to take to the skies.

***

Foreign languages surround me,

Not a word I could possibly understand,

Surrounded by people, yet totally alone,

Which was always the bigger plan.

***

It’s hot, as the plane sits and waits,

A few people not yet seated,

The air conditioner struggling,

As everyone is impatient and over heated.

***

A full load today,

Not a seat spare,

Thankfully I have the coveted window seat,

Attempt to take it, if you dare.

***

Excitement rises as I wait,

The best part of a plane ride,

Is the G force on take off,

The smile on my face free and wide.

***

Imagine my surprise,

When I discovered Qantas’ free wi-fi,

The hours will pass quickly,

As we speed across the sky.

***

Melbourne we’ll soon be on our way,

Landing just hours before,

The Billy Joel concert tonight,

To listen to those songs that I adore.

***

Here we go,

Bye for awhile Brisbane,

Almost 2,000 Kilometres to go,

Aboard this packed airplane.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Flying is so stressful but your words make it sound more joyful. I also love Billy Joel and saw his concert many years ago. Lovely.
