As the Sun Sets
Inspired by Rumi's "A Prayer"
Drown out this world for me,
my love,
until my ears are filled with nothing but splendor.
Poets of yore have asked that our path be made as pleasant as a garden,
and I have joined them in that prayer every night.
Let this love be a shadow
To follow wherever you may go.
Let it be water
To sustain you each day.
And let it be wine
To grow better with age.
The sun sets,
and I am whole.
The sun rises,
and no longer do I impatiently wait
for another night
in which a dream of you must suffice.
You are here,
with me,
and together
we shall approach this new day
hand in hand.
