Aphotic
For the ''Somewhere Between Here and There'' Challenge
Aphotic: (adjective) - a condition of being without light, particularly in the context of the ocean or other bodies of water. It specifically describes the region where sunlight doesn't penetrate, typically below a certain depth.
*
Between the light and what we want to see,
there is me,
heading down
past it all.
*
When I focus and sound it out here,
I fear
and sense that it is
just me.
*
Darkness here, perpetual
(no chance left).
Could a source of my thoughts
clear that space?
*
It is a void
we want to avoid.
But maybe we should
swim and see
what we can be.

Lots of brilliant strokes in this! Thanks for sharing the word and you beautiful and thought-provoking poem!
I learned a new word; thank you! Heavy hitter right here: "It is a void we want to avoid. But maybe we should swim and see what we can be." Beautiful work, Kendall!
This made me think of Aphotic from Vocal. Not sure if you know her. Been very long since she published anything. Anyway, I loved your poem!
Wow - I think this is awesome and probably my favorite thing you've written. I love this Kendall.
Love this! Thanks for teaching me a new word!
Well that was heavy in all the right ways, felt relatable too! Nicely done Kendall!
